“Design is not just what it looks and feels like. Design is how it works.” – Steve Jobs

Most people have some idea of the landscape they want — the colors, the use of space, the materials — and some may even have thoughts on how to implement it. Yet, nearly every landscaping project will benefit from the experience, creativity, and insights of a professional designer.

A well thought out landscape design is the best communication tool we have to ensure your needs and goals are met throughout the design and installation process. Whether your property is a blank slate, or you’re in need of a renovation, our designers collaborate with you to provide creative, functional solutions that add enjoyment and peace-of-mind to your time outdoors.

Your outdoor spaces play a critical role in your overall enjoyment of your home and can have a significant impact on your home’s value. Maybe you have a vision in your mind about what you want to change with your landscaping? Maybe you’ve tried in the past to enhance the exterior appearance of your yard but found it too difficult or time consuming? Or, maybe you are working with a new home and starting with a clean slate?

Regardless of which description fits you best, CM’s can help you understand your options, as well as the process of transforming your vision into a reality. We work closely with you to assess your overall goals, explain key milestones in the process, and answer any questions you may have.

The Design Process

You may have heard us say that “Every outdoor space is as unique as the people that live and play in them.” We mean it — we always design with this principle in mind. You may live in a house similar to that of your neighbor, friend, or a stranger down the street, but chances are that you all have different ideas as to what the perfect outdoor space looks like or how it functions for the people who use it.

Do you have kids that need open space to run and play? Are you a grill master that needs ALL the outdoor kitchen accessories, or would you prefer gardens to grow your favorite flowers? Are you a socialite always ready to host a party, or do you prefer smaller, more intimate settings? Questions like these help us to understand you and the way intend to interact with your space. After all, you’re the one that lives there. It should be about you!

Taking The First Step – Consultation & Site Analysis

From the beginning, our focus is on you and your landscaping needs. Our designers will meet with you on-site to learn more about your ideas, as well as the expectations you have for your project. We are passionate about providing the highest degree of service at every level of the process and this starts by closely listening to your desires and gathering key information about your property.

We will explore your preferred color scheme, outdoor entertainment needs, and any other special features you would like to see incorporated. We will help you understand the benefits of various options when it comes to, not only the aesthetics and functionality of your space, but also any maintenance it may require in the future.

We also want to learn about your budget — both short-term and long-term — as it is a critical variable that needs to be considered from the beginning. Site limitations, materials, equipment and labor costs all contribute to the viability of a project concept. Often it is necessary to prioritize areas or features within the plan, or, even look to phase in a project over a series of months or even years.

During the initial consultation, we will perform a site analysis. This part of the process involves taking specific measurements and photos, as well as factoring in things like the indoor views of the landscape and specific areas of emphasis. This important information will be used as the base map upon which we add our design concepts.

The Concept Phase

The information gathered during the on-site consultation and site analysis will be factored into a conceptual sketch for you to review. This rough draft is intended to be a flexible starting point which can be revised as needed. We will answer any related questions you may have at this time.

Throughout this phase of the process, we will provide you with further insights on factors such as the horticultural and hardscape aspects of the project. Once you are satisfied, we will begin to prepare the final project layout.

Final Presentation & Proposal

With the concept phase finished, our design team will generate the final landscape design — a scaled, computer-generated sitemap which will fully illustrate materials, patterns, and plants necessary to complete the installation process. This will serve as a blueprint for the entire project.

Along with the final design, we will provide a proposal package that includes all project specifications, associated costs and warranties, as well as, a projected start date. Unlike many others, our proposals are comprehensive. We strive to include all foreseeable costs in the initial proposal to avoid any unexpected expenses after installation has begun.

Insights On The Installation Process

On the start date, our team of experienced installation specialists will arrive at your property to begin construction. We will start by prepping the site. Depending on the scope of the project, we may need to flag sprinkler heads, remove fencing, and stage materials on-site. In many cases, we will need to designate a construction zone to ensure the safety of you, as well as our team.

Once preparations have been completed, installation can begin. Following the details of the landscape design, our teams work professionally and efficiently to complete your project on time and on budget. Occasionally, the duration of the Installation process can vary due to external factors such as inclement weather. When this happens, we will assess any ramifications and communicate an updated schedule for completion. At the end of the installation process, any excess materials or construction debris will be removed, and the site will be thoroughly cleaned, leaving you to enjoy your new outdoor space.

Care & Maintenance Information

Of course, CM’s doesn’t just design and install a project then walk away. We have an extensive follow-up process that includes an on-site walkthrough and automatic 30-day plant check-up. Immediately after installation, we will provide you with detailed instructions on project specific care and maintenance. This includes basic plant care, re-mulching recommendations, as well as best practices for maintaining hardscape features.

Whether you are looking for answers regarding a completed project, or searching for other lawn or landscape solutions, we are always happy to answer your questions.
